Before you pay, make sure the boring-but-important checks are done. A beautiful stone is easier to enjoy when the paperwork, disclosure and return terms are also clear.

This tool does not grade a diamond. It helps you catch the common things shoppers forget to verify before purchase. Your answers stay in your browser.

I verified the laboratory report using the issuing lab’s own website. The listing clearly identifies the diamond as natural or laboratory-grown. I reviewed the actual measurements, not only carat weight. I inspected video/images for dark zones, bow tie, windowing or visible inclusions. I understand the retailer’s return window and return-shipping terms. I checked whether the setting protects vulnerable corners or points. I compared at least two similar diamonds before deciding. I know which compromises I am intentionally making for budget.

What this checklist cannot do

It cannot tell you whether a diamond is fairly priced, attractive to your eye or suitable for a specific setting. It is a process-control tool: a way to reduce avoidable mistakes before a high-consideration purchase.
